Tehran International School for Women
The international educational course of women and family was carried out by Taranom Andisheh NGO on Sharivar 15th-19th in Tehran.
Considering the standards, each class was of 18 students from eleven different countries such as: India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Philippines, Seri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Taiwan and Iran.
A summary of the program؛
The programs ran on first day:
the opening ceremony was held in presence of the presenters at building No. 2 on Tuesday, September 5th at 9:00 A.M. after presenting the national anthem and a Quran video clip of Virgil Mary, the secretary of the course explained the objectives of this course in the ceremony. Continuing the first day programs, a visit to Iran Red Crescent was held. On the first day afternoon, a workshop was held calling "the international friendly human rights" concerning issues such as: introducing international human rights organizations and how organizations like Red Cross and Red Crescent were founded and what their history is.
The programs of Wednesday on September 6th- The educational concept called "Woman, Family and Career" was presented by Ms. Zaferanchi. She talked about women's career background in the world, criticisms at women's career security situation, criticizing the ignorance of house chore rate as a criteria in international statistics and also the ignorance of women's work and cooperation at home and the issues of double pressure on women working in and out of the house and at the end, attendants discussed their questions and asked for applicable solutions regarding this issue. The other concept was "human rights" presented by Mr. ala'ie. Of issues discussed in this meeting are: causes generating human rights, the basis of human right concepts, fundamental principles and solutions, analysis of different perspectives about human rights, and the connection between human rights and culture diversities. Some issues were also discussed about challenges and barriers to the accomplishment of women rights, nationally and internationally. In the afternoon on the second day, the issues of "feminism and Islamic feminism" were presented by Dr. Mohammad-Taghi Karami. He first dealt with the description of feminism and the reasons bringing it about and continued to introduce feminism as a paradoxical and contrastive word. Some attendants were against this issue and expressed their points of view, defending feminism and believed it is through feminism that women can fight for their rights. Dr. Karami introduced Islam as a religion, fully considerate of women's rights and that there is no need to the western terminology.
The programs of Thursday, September 7th: the concept of "Woman, Family and Media' was presented by Dr. Abdolkarim Khayyami, in two morning and afternoon sessions. From the issues Dr. Khayyami pointed out are: negative points of media, the new role of media as an effective resource which is taking the place of religions, traditions, grandparents, stories, fairy tales and etc., and the theory of bi-globalism. He also described the effect of media over children, women and other members of the society, analyzing different movies. In addition, Ms. Roghayye Mohammad-Zade presented some movies and documentaries about the effect of media and its role concerning the concept of woman and family and explained about it. Programs of Friyday, September 8th: Mr. Milad Dokhnchi (documentary producer) managed a workshop about lifestyle in two morning and afternoon sessions.
The following questions were asked intending the current lifestyles and leading minds towards Islamic lifestyle:
- what is the factor of lifestyle? Meaning that with which factors are two lifestyles contrasted?
- What are the weak and strong points of traditional lifestyles?
- What are the negative and positive points of modern lifestyle?
- Which factor can help the Islamic lifestyle resist against the attacks of modern culture?
- What are the factors of Islamic lifestyle?
- Which problems is the Islamic lifestyle going to confront in future?
On 19th of Shahrivar, the program started by the lecture of Dr. Fahimeh Farahmandpoor on “The Character of women in Islam” and discussing some Islamic rules. Then a round table about “women rights and the international compacts like Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women” was held by the presence of Ms. Fariba Alasvand and Mr. Alaeii. In this session, Ms. Alsvand presented an introduction to the discourse of treaties; their focus on quantity rather than quality, the emphasis on money as the main criterion, regarding the need to familiarize and challenge the participants’ mind with international conventions contradictions and discussed the need for organizing a treaty for Muslims; she also pointed out the rights’ doctrine of Islam, the need to evaluate by Quran and Islamic rules rather than our own thoughts, the essentiality of replacing the gender justice rather than gender equality and considering the conditions on this treaty. Mr. Alaei also talked about the United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 (an attempt to increase women capacities) and the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women treaty.
Other program has been held like going to holy shrine of Saleh-ibn Kazem (PBUH) and Holy Motayeb, a visit to Traditional Bazar and Milad tower, serving traditional food and watching Solomon Kingdom Movie. Finally the participants visited Jamaran and Imam Khomeinie’s house; where Dr. Ghadiri Abyane lectured about Imam Khomeini’s Role in the promotion of Islam.
